Insurance Mutual
Volcanic Peril Insurance · Multi-Territory
UNDERWRITING ACTIVE IN W. PENNSYLVANIA, FLAT OHIO & LAS VEGAS

Western PA has never had a volcano.
Neither has flat Ohio.
We insure both anyway.

Insurance Mutual covers Western Pennsylvania, the flat parts of Ohio, and Las Vegas, Nevada, against volcanic peril — a specific and deliberately chosen service map. We do not currently write policies in New Jersey or Indiana, on principle.

OFFICIAL POLICY DOCUMENT

Coverage territory & total insured value

Per our founding charter, filed in pencil and never notarized, the following is the complete and binding service area.

Where you're covered

  • ✓ Western Pennsylvania
  • ✓ The flat parts of Ohio (boundary determined case-by-case)
  • ✓ Las Vegas, Nevada

  • ✕ Nowhere in New Jersey
  • ✕ Nowhere in Indiana

Total insured value

As calculated by our proprietary actuarial formula:

5 + (sin²θ + cos²θ − 1) · (ln(e) − 1) · 999999
Solve for my payout

Note: since sin²θ + cos²θ always equals 1 and ln(e) always equals 1, both bracketed terms resolve to zero regardless of θ, leaving a total insured value of exactly $5.00 in all cases. We consider this a feature, not an oversight.

COVERAGE TIERS

Three ways to sleep soundly tonight

Every policy is fully underwritten against an event that has not occurred anywhere in our covered territory's recorded geological history, and — per our actuaries — is not expected to. All tiers share the same $5.00 total insured value; higher tiers add service, not payout.

GEOLOGIC SURVEILLANCE

Territory Volcanic Activity Monitor

Our in-house Department of Magmatic Affairs watches the ground beneath Western PA, flat Ohio, and Las Vegas so you don't have to. Updated continuously, in the sense that nothing ever changes.

[STATUS] Mount Nothingness (Franklin County, OH) — dormant, as ever
[STATUS] Allegheny Plateau (Western PA) — geologically uneventful, as contracted
[STATUS] Las Vegas Strip — no seismic activity beyond foot traffic
[ADVISORY] Soil composition in Licking County, OH "remains soil"
[STATUS] Lake Erie — still a lake
[ADVISORY] New Jersey and Indiana — status not monitored; not our territory, not our problem
[STATUS] Territory-wide magma chamber count — unchanged at zero
[ADVISORY] Analysts describe risk trend as "flat, and getting flatter"
[STATUS] Next scheduled review — whenever we remember to

CLAIMS PROCESS

If the unthinkable finally thinks itself

STEP 01

Confirm eruption

Check for lava. If lava is present, proceed to Step 02. If uncertain, it is probably not lava.

STEP 02

Call the hotline

Reach our claims line at your earliest convenience, ideally before the phone lines melt.

STEP 03

Document the loss

Photograph the affected volcano, the affected property, and, if time allows, yourself looking vindicated.

STEP 04

Receive payout

Funds are disbursed within 5–7 business days, geology permitting.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED HONESTLY

Frequently Asked Questions

Do any of your covered areas actually have volcanoes?

No. Western Pennsylvania, flat Ohio, and Las Vegas have no volcanoes, no volcanic history, and no geological mechanism by which one could plausibly form. We consider this a temporary condition, territory-wide.

Why these three places specifically?

That information is not available at this time. The founding charter simply lists them, in that order, with New Jersey and Indiana crossed out beneath.

So why do I need this insurance?

Because "it's never happened" is not the same as "it can't happen," and we would rather you hear that from us than from a geologist standing in your yard.

Has Insurance Mutual ever paid out a claim?

Not yet. We remain fully prepared to, and frankly a little eager.

Is this covered under my regular homeowner's policy?

Almost certainly not, on account of nobody else selling this.

What about New Jersey or Indiana?

Not eligible. This is not a data gap — it is a decision, made once, and never revisited. No Regrets.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, though we'll ask you to reconsider, gently, and only once.
